Wearing sunscreen daily is one of the best “anti-ageing” and health habits you can have, but adding makeup on top can get tricky. Many people complain about pilling, patchiness, or that grey-white cast in photos.
The key is in the order and texture. Start with skincare first – a light moisturiser that suits your skin type. Let it sink in for a few minutes. Then apply a generous, even layer of sunscreen. If your sunscreen is too thick or sticky, makeup will struggle to sit nicely on top, so finding a comfortable formula is important.
Wait a bit again before makeup. Don’t rub your foundation harshly over sunscreen; instead, gently tap or swipe in one direction with fingers, a sponge, or brush. Pressing rather than dragging reduces the chance of products rolling off in little balls.
If white cast is your main issue, look for sunscreens with a more transparent finish or those marketed as “no cast” or “invisible”. Often, chemical or hybrid formulas blend better under makeup compared to very dense mineral formulas, especially on deeper skin tones.
Setting with a light powder helps lock everything in place. Once you find a combo that works for your skin and climate, you’ll realise sunscreen and makeup can coexist quite peacefully.
